ABOUT

After earning a bachelor’s degree in musicology from the Sorbonne and a Diplôme Supérieur from the Jeune Chœur de Paris, Camille Merckx continued her training at the opera studio of La Monnaie in Brussels, where she sang Garcia in Massenet’s Don Quichotte conducted by Marc Minkowski and Musico in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut conducted by Carlo Rizzi.

She was then invited to perform at the Lausanne Opera house (Isaura in Rossini’s Tancredi and Rosette in Massenet’s Manon), the Opéra-Comique (La Folie in Destouches’ Le Carnaval et la Folie), the Aix-en-Provence and Salzburg Festivals (Rihm’s Jakob Lenz), the Teatro Valli in Reggio Emilia (Flosshilde in Wagner’s Ring), the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires (Boulez’s Le Marteau sans Maître), the Lille Opera house, where she created the role of La Reine in Gérard Pesson’s Trois Contes, and at Teatro Real, Madrid (Teatros del Canal) to sing the Contralto roles in Georges Benjamin’s Into the little hill

JULIE M.

En garde & en scène

Lyrical theater based on Mademoiselle Julie de Maupin

Two women. Two eras. A shared spirit.

Around a fencing piste, the audience watches an intriguing face-off. Rather than a duel, an encounter. That of two opera singers: today’s Camille, and Julie de Maupin, a rebellious figure from the 17th century.

LES AILES DU DÉSIR

OTHMAN LOUATI

Othman Louati’s first opera, adapted from Wim Wenders’ cinematic masterpiece, reveals a soundscape where soaring lyricism, Debussy-esque harmonies and electronic textures intersect. Seven singers and thirteen instrumentalists lend their voices and their sounds to the secret thoughts of angels and humanity, in search of meaning. On stage, large and small puppets echo the strange and poetic magic of the film.
